Penguin Jokes (conversation) Reflection

How would you describe broadcast to someone else?

  • broadcasting is making a sprite wait until another sprite do something and then triggers it to do an action afterwards.

When would you use time in a project? When would you use broadcasting?

  • I would use timing when they sprites are doing actions. I would sue broadcasting when they are supposed to be talking to each other.

Making Blocks Reflection

How would you explain "Make A Block" to someone else?

  • I would say it's putting a bunch of commands of your own inside one block that you create. Looking at it it would look like something is 'Flying', but behind that block that you made are a lot of other commands that aren't seen.
When might you use "Make A Block"?
  • I would use make a block if my script is too long and I want to organize it better so it can make more sense.

Debug It's Reflection

What was one debugging strategy that you used?

  • I used trial and error a lot when trying to debug things. I tried many different options before I found the one that worked the best.

How would you help someone else learn how to debug a project?

  • I would help them by having them try all the possibilities to fix the project and then have them look more closely on the one that makes most sense.

10 Block Challenge- Relfection

How does this activity help you learn Scratch?

  • Doing this activity was helpful because it made me more comfortable with the commands what each one does.

How does the 10 block restraint impact your ideas?

  • Only being able to use 10 blocks was difficult because there was limited things that the cat could do, even if I wanted it to do more.

10 Block Challenge

Try It Out- Reflection

What was surprising about the activity?

  • I thought that putting it all together for a final product was different than what I thought it would be like. I also was surprised by name "Costume" and "Sprite". I sometimes get those mixed up.

How did it feel to be led step-by-step though the activity?

  • I like being led step-by-step by YouTube videos because you are able to pause it and figure it out on your own, without it going to fast.

As a learner (with Scratch and beyond), when do you like having more structure?

  • I like having more structure when it comes to certain directions and what should be on our blog.

When do you like having more freedom?

  • I like having more freedom when we can try things out and make them unique and reflect who you are.

When do you feel most creative?

  • I like to feel most creative when we can make pretty much whatever scene we want to, as long as it follows the certain requirements. I don't like when we have to make a scene that's exactly like someones else.

HTML Intro

3 things I want to learn:
  • Why those certain symbols were chosen to represent what they do?
  • What would happen if a computer made a mistake with a symbol?
  • Who created it?
2 things I have learned:
  • HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language.
  • What HTML tags are and how important they are.
1 thing I am concerned about making a web page:
  • I am concerned about making a mistake and not knowing how to undo it.

New Binary Code

Blog Post #11

1. Create a new code for Binary system (you cannot use the traditional number or alpha system we have already used in class)
Maybe work this out on paper 1st

2. Blog about this and explain your system.
Title this as "New Binary Code"

 = 0

= 1

An example of using this binary code would be:

Why do computers use binary, anyway?

3 new things I learned:
- Our hears perceive the waves from the speakers or head phones as sound.
- When the sound is loud, the voltage is high and the sound moves the air. When the sound is soft, the voltage is lower and doesn't move the air as much.
- Every number is like the number two because every decision is made off of two decisions.

2 things I don't understand well:
- How to represent larger number using two wires
- How does the length of a wire depend on if it loses voltage or not?

Something I would like to know more about:
- I want to know more about how exactly headphones work when using a phone and how the sound varies, but we may not even notice it.

Binary Code Reflection

1. What is the highest level you got to. No shame here, and no pressure either.
The highest level I got to was Level 5, but i died shortly after I made it there.
2. What is the hardest part of the binary game?
The hardest part for me was when we needed to find what number it was because adding took longer> I also thought that it was difficult when it went so fast.
3. Do you like using binary numbers to count with?
Not really because I am just so used to counting normally, although i think it's very interesting how it works.
4. How could you use your 5 fingers to count with?
You  could use your five fingers to represent 1's and 0's. If your finger is up, it's a 1, if it's down its a zero. So if you had your pointer finger up only, it would equal 2 because it's the second finger and the only one up. The binary code for it would 01000.
5. Can you make a connection with how the binary system is used with computers? Explain.
Computers use many different codes to interpret what the message is trying to get across. Using 1's and 0's help the computer sort out what it is, without having random number and letters thrown all together.

Google

Google Boys video Blog Post

1. Write about how Google transformed into a 2 man operation into a profitable large corporation
Google came up with the idea of having advertisements on the sides of searches done by people. Later on, they made the advertisements relate to what is being searched.
2. What are at least 2 challenges Google faces as they move forward?
The more people that use it, the bigger the demand to make is better is. Also, the competing  units like Yahoo, Bing or AOL.
3. What is their key to being ahead and staying ahead of all their competition?
Google takes all the relative searches and uses those sites first when somebody searches something.
4. Describe how they find all their information so we may do fast searches.
They find certain websites that are used commonly based on the average past search history.

Eliza

1. Did you find Eliza to be "human-like"?
No, she did not seem human like at all. She repeated her self a lot and didn't make any sense most of the time.

2. How would you try to make her seem more human?
Respond with different things instead of the same few variations of responses.

3. What can you expect from a computer as far as having it express any emotion or emotion like words?
I can't expect any emotion in a computer, except for what it is instructed to do. if it is told to say something with emotion in it, it wouldn't really mean anything.

4. Do you see in the future that computers could be a good 'human-like" substitute?

Yes, I can see a future in human-like computers, although I don't think they will be as helpful as they are intended to be.

Latino Cultural Background- Reflection

Pre-Comlumbian Pyramids

1) History
  • The Maya lived in what we call Mesoamerica.
  • Civilization covered southern Mexico
  • History dived into three periods: Pre-Classic, Classic and Post-Classic
  • Lasted from 400 BCE - 1520 CE
  • The Maya were excellent record keepers
  • Wrote their history in codices (figbark paper books)
2) Architecture
  • The pyramid-temples of Mesoamerica were surmounted by religious temples
  • Religious activity and rituals happened at these sites, possibly daily
  • Highly accurate astronomical observations were made from the temples
  • The sacred buildings should be located in places of power
3) Construction Methods
  • The temples were built using simple and rustic tools made of stone
  • Same pattern for every building
  • Buildings were then stuccoed and almost certainly painted
  • Most cases this stucco did not survive

Scavenger Hunt Reflection

I think that the Scavenger Hunt we did today in Computer Apps was different and fun. I thought that I knew what to do finding information fast because I do things like that all time. Two other things that I could improve on would be knowing exactly what to type in and know which website would be best for the needed information.

Computer Buying Reflection

2 things I liked about the Computer Buying Project:
- Learned the different parts of a computer
- Learned which type of computer is better for certain things

1 thing that was a challenge:
- I think it would have been helpful to go over the vocabulary sheet before we started the project

First Post

Hey! My name is Laura Taylor. I am a senior at RMHS. I just turned 17 on August 27th (the first day of school). This is my fifth year in the RMHS Color Guard. I am part of  I have two cats named Percy and Marty. I go to Meredith, New Hampshire on Lake Waukewan all summer and love to swim, kayak, lay in the sun and hike. Over the summer, I hiked Mount Adams, Jefferson and Madison. Besides Guard and Hiking I'm actually quite lazy and love watching shows on Netflix.

Computer Buying project-Reflection

So far, working on this project with my partner has been pretty easy and going well. I think we communicate well and listen to each others ideas. To my knowledge, we have been splitting up the amount of work fairly so one of us doesn't do extra work.
